ILLiad Interlibrary Loan Service (ILL)

Interlibrary Loan service is available to currently registered, full-time students in all programs.  The service is also available to currently employed full-time Spring Hill College faculty and staff.  Lending of books and copying of articles is a privilege granted by the lending library to facilitate research.  When you borrow material from another library, you accept responsibility for the careful use and prompt return of that library's materials.

What are the main features of ILLiad?

  • Articles and other photocopies are delivered directly using Electronic Delivery.
  • ILLiad makes it easy to submit and track your interlibrary loan requests. You can check the status of your requests at any time from any location by logging on to your ILLiad account.

Articles
ILLiad sends an e-mail notification as soon as the requested material arrives. The notification will include information about how to retrieve your article:

  • Logon to ILLiad
  • Click the "Electronically Received Articles" link under the "View Requests" option.
  • A list containing all of the items that you have waiting to be viewed or downloaded will be displayed. We recommend saving your article before printing.

Books and their Due Dates

  • Pick up your ILL books at the Library Circulation Desk.
  • Lending libraries set the due date for their materials and send automated notices directly to you.  SHC does not set the due date.
  • Books not picked up promptly will be returned to the lending library on the due date.

Book Renewal/Book Return

  • Requests for renewal must be made by the day BEFORE the due date.
  • You can request renewal by logging on to your ILLiad account. Give the lender a few days to reply your renewal request, then check your ILLiad account to find the new due date.
  • Books must be returned to the Burke Library Circulation Desk by the due date indicated.

Overdue Books/Overdue Charges/Loss of Privileges

  • You must pay all overdue charges assessed by the lending library.
  • Your student account will be charged a fee of $75 per book for failure to return ILL books by the indicated due date.
  • Failure to return ILL books may also result in withholding of grades and/or transcripts.
  • Any borrower who consistently disregards due dates will be refused further service.

Renewing an ILL Book

See the attached document for instructions on how to renew an item you have borrowed through Inter-Library Loan.

PLEASE NOTE RE: DUE DATES
  • When your ILL book arrives, the ILLiad system generates its due date.
  • While your book may have a hand-written due date, the system-generated  due date is what determines when it must be returned or renewed. (You can find the system-generated due date in your ILLiad account under "Books  checked out to me.")
  • The due date is the date your book must be back to the lending library, and NOT just the date it must be returned to the SHC Library.
Please plan accordingly!

ILL: Interlibrary Loan Copyright Statement

WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction.

One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or other reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research."

If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

THIS INSTITUTION RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REFUSE TO ACCEPT A COPYING REQUEST if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright.
