All Soul's Day, which is commemorated during a three-day celebration beginning on October 31st, is a celebration to honor the dead in Mexico, Latin America, and Spain. According to tradition, it's believed that the dead return to their earthly homes on November 2, when family members visit the gravesite to welcome them home. Many graves are decorated with flowers, candy, and photographs and some families construct an altar at the gravesite. Some celebrations even have tequila and a mariachi band!

Official Court Painter to Charles IV of Spain, Goya is widely considered both an Old Master and the first of the Moderns. As an artist, he produced highly satiric works that chronicled his surroundings. 

While the 16th and 17th centuries are often considered Spain's Siglo de Oro (Golden Century), painting in Spain can be traced back to illuminated manuscripts. Artists including Velazquez, El Greco, and Ribera were among the most important figures of the 17th century, while Francisco de Goya dominated 18th-century Spanish art. Their works can be found in Madrid's Museo del Prado. Many works of 20th-century artists including Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró, and Picasso can be found in Madrid's Museo Reina Sofia.
