Father Albert Sidney Foley, S.J.

Albert Sidney Foley Jr. was a Jesuit priest, professor of sociology at Spring Hill College, and a champion of civil rights in Mobile.

Thanks to Fr. Foley, Spring Hill College became the first college in Alabama to desegregate; his work also led to the desegregation of Mobile businesses.

Below is an interview about his life and work.

Response to the Birmingham Campaign

The Birmingham campaign was an American movement organized by Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

Below are letters sent by Fr. Foley discussing an emergency meeting after the first events of the Birmingham campaign and the arrest of Martin Luther King Jr.
