Burke Memorial Library: Access Off Campus

Off Campus Access to Library Materials

Yes, you can access Burke Memorial Library's resources off campus!

Instructions for accessing resources are below.  If you require assistance from a librarian, please use the form to submit a question or email a librarian directly.

Two Accounts: BadgerWeb and your Library Account

Each member of the SHC campus community uses 2 accounts while interacting with the library.

BadgerWeb Account:

Your SHC BadgerWeb account allows you to get through the SHC EZ Proxy server - which verifies that you are member of the SHC community.

To access library databases like you would on campus, you will need to login through the EZ Proxy server (see below).

Library Account: Your Library Account resides in the SHC Discovery catalog.  Your Library Account allows you to view the items that you have currently checked out from Burke Library and renew items.

Your Library Account does not control your access to the library's databases.

Logging in to library resources off campus

If you are on campus, you will not need a username and password to access articles from Burke Library's databases.

If you are off campus, you will see a login screen like the one below if you try to view an article that is behind the firewall.

To bypass this screen, login with your SHC BadgerWeb username and password.  You will only need the stem - everything before the @ symbol.

If the system responds with an error message, you will need to use the SHC My Password Management tool to reset your password - even if you can log into your email without a problem.

Alabama Virtual Library (AVL) Out of State Access

SHC students whose hometowns are outside of Alabama may need access to the Alabama Virtual Library's (AVL) collection of databases.  Students and faculty will need to contact the AVL HelpDesk directly to obtain a temporary username and password during this time.
